The course is offered primarily for students who wish to pursue a career in environmental and sustainability-related fields in government, local government, international organization and business with knowledge of environmental and nature conservation policies. The lectures are centred around the broader issue of sustainability, with particular emphasis on the need for indicators 'beyond GDP'. The Ecological Footprint, the UN SDGs and the wealth-based indicators of sustainability will be presented. Students will learn about environmental policies at the international, national and business level. The course also addresses theoretical and empirical issues of sustainability and economic growth, with limited depth. The course is accomplished by active class participation and an essay submitted as the final exam.
